The work contained in this Ph D thesis aims to investigate and develop solutions for providing secure and reliable wireless and ad hoc communications.

The research goals of this Ph D work are: Goal 1: To collect knowledge that forms a foundation for security and reliability in wireless communications, especially communication in ad hoc networks.

Chapter 2 summa- rizes paper contents and presents contributions of our papers.

This chapter ends with conclusions and discussion of open problems.

Wiley Online Library requires cookies for authentication and use of other site features; therefore, cookies must be enabled to browse the site.Detailed information on how Wiley uses cookies can be found in our Privacy Policy.Goal 2: To create solutions for securing and providing reliable wireless communication services, especially for ad hoc network applications.This Ph D project contains a number of distinct, but related works tied to SWA- COM project research theme.Paper C and D are solutions for secure and reliable communications in wireless sensor networks.This thesis addresses the problem of detection of an unknown binary event.But as this rule requires a-priori knowledge that is difficult to attain in practice, suboptimal fusion rules are proposed that are realizable in practice.The second part considers a fully distributed detection framework and we propose a two-step distributed quantized fusion rule algorithm where in the first step the SNs collaborate with their neighbors through error-free, orthogonal channels.
