Some schools and departments host web pages on their own servers or use third-party solutions. When a live course reaches its end date, it becomes an "archived" course.

Courses that have already ended are called "archived" courses.

Stanford Massive Online Open Courses (MOOCs), which are classes conducted virtually through online platforms such as Coursera, i Tunes U and Open Ed X, a majority of them free and open to the public.

The content in these courses is still available, but it is no longer possible to submit graded assignments, nor earn a Statement of Accomplishment.
