Salinger takes an interesting perspective on the events and puts the reader into the story, submerging them into an unknown man’s life.

After the concert he wanders into the church tearoom, where the main stage for the story is set.

The only speaking he does with her is prefacing his words with “I said” and not putting himself into the dialogue.
