Organizing your research can make the research paper writing process easier.
Once you finish writing a research paper, you will need to cite the sources you used to do your research.
How you format your Works Cited page depend on the style guidelines you are required to use.
An older method is to use 3-by-5-inch bibliography and note cards to organize the sources you find and the information in them.
Your teacher may assign these cards to teach you how to do research and cite your sources.
This article was co-authored by Michelle Golden, Ph D.
Michelle Golden is an English teacher in Athens, Georgia.Melissa Mc Donald has been writing about education since 2006.Her work has appeared in “Adjunct Nation,” “JCW” and “Honor Cord” e-zine.Write the author’s last name, followed by a comma and first name, and then the title. Lastly, add publication information, such as the city of publication and the publisher of a book or the journal’s name, volume and issue. The front of the bibliography card should also include the location of the source. For example, to cite a book in MLA Style, use the following format: Author, Name. For library sources, write the name of the library and the call number. This brief location information should help you easily find the source again.(Notice that in the sample note card, The World Book, Volume 2, page 21, has been shortened to: WB, 2, p.133.) When you are finished writing your paper, you can use the information on your note cards to double-check your bibliography. When assembling a final bibliography, list your sources (texts, articles, interviews, and so on) in alphabetical order by authors' last names. Not everyone has a clear understanding of how to write bibliography. It should be present at the end of any academic paper.Sometimes it is difficult to locate an author for an online source. If you absolutely can't find an author's name, you can use the name of the organization that published the article (for example, "California Department of Health," or "American Humane Society").
