You will also find writing ideas for specific dates and events for each month.

Second, you will find general writing prompts that you can use all year long with your students.

I have divided these general creative writing prompts into the following categories: school, favorites things, friendship, memories, personal and feelings, famous people, animals, create or invent, what if, and story starters.

Students are also given a timed exercise in which they must write in response to a prompt — either a short passage of text, a poem, or an illustration.

For scoring purposes, answers are viewed as first drafts, not polished writing.Two types of questions compose the test: multiple-choice and open-ended.In reading, students read several passages representing a variety of genres, then answer questions that demonstrate their understanding of the passages.On this page, you will find a large list of writing topics that will spark creative ideas in your students during journal and creative writing activities.I have created these writing lists during my 22 years of teaching experience.Students in fourth grade need a variety of practice developing their writing skills.According to Common Core State Standards Initiative, fourth-grade writing should include opinion pieces, informative texts, and narratives about real or imagined experiences.For listening, students hear a passage read out loud, then answer comprehension questions.An editing task is typically included in the writing section — in 4th grade, children are expected to recognize grammar and usage errors.Learning about point of view is another 4th grade focus.Teachers often use newspaper letters to the editor to help students understand how to write opinion pieces.
