During the first 18 months fellows dedicate their time to clinical training, rotating through various subsections of the division, including dysmorphology, biochemical genetics, cytogenetics, molecular genetics, and cancer genetics.During the remaining six months fellows dedicate their efforts to research.The integrated curriculum also includes monthly Anesthesia education days.

The development of this MCW combined Pediatric and Anesthesiology training program is one of a select group of clinical and academic medical centers within the United States and the first training program in the Midwest.

The training program includes intensive didactic lectures taught by division faculty members and guest faculty members from various departments at Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC).
Fellows actively participate in weekly divisional conferences, where they present and discuss complex cases drawn from their pool of patients.
